As a Mom of 2 elementary-aged kids, I am technically a stay-at-home mom.
Between the kids never being in school (it seems), and the short days (they get out at 2:15pm), it doesn’t leave me a ton of time to do all the things.
I’m also a business owner of a product company.
I started Sprouted Planner in 2020 when my kids were 3 and not-yet-one. It was built and ran during nap time.
Now days, I get a lot more time to work on my business. Yet, I have a ton of other responsibilities and relationships to maintain, so it’s all a juggling act, and everyday is different.
Here’s just one snapshot of what could happen in a day. This particular day is a little out-of-the-ordinary because of an Expo in the cities, but beyond that, this would be a typical day.

4:00 AM: My husband’s alarm goes off to wake us up. He gives me a hug before heading downstairs to pour our coffees. I make the bed and get into my workout clothes.
4:15 AM: First sips of coffee and reading out of my Bible. I’ve been going in chronological order and I’m in 1 Kings. This is the first time I’ve ever read the Bible from the beginning and it’s fascinating. It’s also slow going since I read about 1 chapter Monday-Thursday (on Friday, I do our finances in the morning). I also read all the commentary notes for the chapter, and summarize what I read in a notebook. Thisnotebook, actually! It helps me retain what I read. Afterwards, I pray for about 5 minutes.
4:50 AM: In my 5-year journal, I write about the previous day, and then plan my day ahead. This year, I’m using theHourly Planner in Daisy Blue. I also make a quick protein shake (Paleo Valley Bone Broth Protein in Salted Carmel has been my go-to lately), and check my email. At this point, I’m avoiding working out…even though I want to do it. But I also don’t want to because it’s hard.
5:30 AM: This would be an ideal time to be DONE with my workout but inevitably, I’m just starting. I followNourish Move Love, and she sends a weekly email with workouts everyday. I simply click on the link and follow along with my free weights (I got from Target) and exercise bands (Amazon).
6:00 AM: My little guy - 6 years old - is like clockwork out of bed and down for breakfast, which I haven’t even started yet. We have a breakfast schedule, and Thursdays is normally bagel or english muffin with some sort of protein (yogurt or cheese stick), but today got weird because of a late night of Swim Team Finals, and I made oatmeal. After breakfast is filling water bottles, packing snacks, making lunches, and getting ready.
7:00 AM: I drop the kids off at school and head back home where I finish getting ready for the day. I spent about 30 minutes starting laundry, doing dishes, wiping down counters, and picking up in general.
8:30 AM: I have 2 hours to work before I have to head out. Today I go through emails, text people back, and choose the ribbon colors for the 2027 Hourly Sprouted Planners.
10:30 AM: I drive to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis to attend a Paper and Merch Expo. I got a few good ideas and potential contacts for a product or 2, and definitely filled my swag bag with a bunch of pens. They also served us lunch.
1:30 PM: Drive back to pick my kids up from school. Between the previous late night and all the people at the expo, I’m dragging. I stop at Starbucks to pick up a Salted Caramel Cold Brew, which is definitely an occasional treat.
2:35 PM: Get back home where the kids do their “after school stuff” of unloading their backpacks, changing clothes, etc. My 10 year old daughter also loves office stuff, so she goes through my swag bag with me and begs to keep it all.
I get some more chores down (forever laundry and dishes) before we head outside because it is 80 degrees and GORGEOUS on this day. My daughter and I play badminton, while the little guy plays with PVC pipes.
4:45 PM: Dinner prep time. Tonight is spaghetti and meatballs. My husband eats 100% paleo, and my daughter is very picky, which means dinner is always tricky. Case in point with this dinner…I spiralize zucchini for the noodles (or zoodles) and pan fry quartered mushrooms. This is the base for my husband and me. For the kids, I make regular noodles and some garlic bread. We all eat the meatballs with sauce. We love Rao’s brand marinara sauce, but I have to blend it completely smooth because my daughter doesn’t like the tomato chunks.
5:45 PM: My husband has come home from work and we’re ready to eat. We pray and then chat about our days. After bringing their plates up, the kids dash outside to enjoy some more warmth while my husband and I clean up. Afterwards, I fold laundry and help out with a task my little guy's guys teacher sent home (I’m the classroom parent for his class).
7:15 PM: I finally sit down on the couch with the kids to watch some TV. They are randomly watching Cory Carson, which is a little young for them but I can’t complain - it’s cute.
7:50 PM: We all get ready for bed and we put the kids to bed. My husband reads with my daughter and tucks her in. I do the same with my son. Then I sing with my daughter and say goodnight to her. I take a shower and do the 1 billion frickin’ things (skin care, lotion, nose strip, mouth guard…you know, the attractive stuff) before I get into bed and read for approximately 10 minutes before I’m falling asleep. Our house faces a prairie with a little pond, so I fall asleep to the sound of the spring frogs peeping away.
This was a particularly full day but it was filled with so much good stuff. I didn’t put a ton of expectation on it, nor did I fully get done everything I wanted and that’s perfectly OK. That’s what tomorrow is for.
I actually made a “day in the life” video (YouTube Short) of this day! You can check it out here.
